Audi Q3
When searching for a very dependable used SUV which is classed as a small, family SUV, only 12% of Q3 owners have reported having problems with their cars in the previous 12 months of ownership.
In the cases of cars that did go wrong, the owners reported that they could still be driven and normally any fault was rectified in a day or less. And to add, a third of the repair bills were less than £50 and of the 12%, no owners had to payout more than £300 on repair bills.
Toyota RAV4
As used SUVs go, the Toyota RAV4 is regarded as one of the oldest workhorses in the used SUV marketplace. The actual car was first manufactured around 15 years ago and only 10% of these cars went wrong, and faults were mainly down to things like the battery and suspension. For half of the faults, the car could still be driven, and issues were normally fixed in a day or less. A very impressive 19% of the work done was free of charge, and for those who were charged, it would be between £101 and £1500.
Vauxhall Mokka (petrol)
Believe it or not, when looking at the Vauxhall Mokka, go for the petrol version, because they’re almost half as likely to suffer a fault as a diesel version. We’re looking at 15% petrol compared to 29% diesel. It’s on record as mainly the brakes and engine cooling system which were the areas to show problems. Of these faults, all the cars remained driveable and were fixed in less than a week, with half of the work done free of charge and half costing between £201 and £300.
Volvo XC60
The Volvo XC60 is similar to the Ford Kuga as being in the bottom three for large SUVs when it comes to durability, but still not classed as an unreliable car. However, the reports state that 27% of the XC60 owners had suffered a fault, but most of the problems were minor issues, such as the bodywork and electrical components. Of the faults reported, four out of five cars could still be driven and 75% were fixed and back on the road in a day or less, with 58% of the work being done under warranty. The car owners of the Volvo XC60 were billed between £50 and £1000.
Mini Countryman
Another great gem of a reliable used SUV, the Mini Countryman owners have reported that around 17% of the issues with this SUV were evenly split between the bodywork, infotainment system, and the engine. The black mark has to be that two-thirds of the cars were in the workshop for more than a week, and a third of cars cost less than £200 to fix, with two-thirds costing more than £1500.
Honda CR-V
If this had to go down to the wire, we think it would have to be two joining winners, and this is one of them, the Honda CR-V is classified as being one of the most dependable cars on UK roads, this is taking into account that this particular model has been around for nearly nine years. In the last 12 months, there have been no reports of any Honda CR-V SUVs going wrong, which is an outstanding achievement. This gives the used SUV a reliability rating of 100%.
As such, when you do a comparison with another SUV, the Toyota RAV4 would be considered tied when it comes to reliability with the Honda CR-V.
